Pepe Reina Signs New Six Year Contract: The Future Liverpool Captain?

Pepe Reina has finally agreed a four year extension that will see his contract run until 2016 ensuring Liverpool have one of the very best 'keepers in the world for a long time to come.
It's testament to Reina's long term commitment to the club as the Spanish shot stopper makes his decision during what looks set to be an unusually poor season under the tenure of Rafael Benitez.

Quite possibly the first name on the team sheet Reina has been the most consistent player at Anfield during this difficult campaign, when heads have dropped the Spaniard is still doing all he can to rally his team mates and get them focused again.
The Madrid born 'keeper is highly respected in the dressing room, looked up to on the training ground by academy trainees, and even when Reina is on the bench he can be seen encouraging the players with the commitment and vigour that makes him one of the best loved personalities on and off the field.
With Steven Gerrard nearing the end of his captaincy there really could be no finer replacement than the current Liverpool goalkeeper. He has all the trademark leadership qualities necessary; the ever important consistency wanted from a captain; as well as the respect needed to direct his troops and have them running through walls for the cause.
Quite easily the best signing Rafael Benitez has made since taking charge the 27 year old is about to hit the peak of his career and the new long term £80,000 a week contract ensures Pepe Reina's best years are seen at Anfield.
